
The architectural complex of "Batoni’s Castle" is located in the so-called "Akhali Telavi" (new Telavi) - on the right side of the Telavi riverside (gorge) located east of "Old Telavi". It was built by the kings of Kakheti - King Archil II (1667-1675) and King Erekle II in the second half of the 18th century. The XVII-XVIII century royal palace located on the territory of "Batoni Fortress" is the only surviving palace in Georgia.
Telavi Historical Museum is located on the territory of "Batoni Castle", where many collections are gathered: Ancient human remains found in Kakheti, unique archaeological and ethnographic items, natural history material, rich heritage of Christian culture Engraved and painted icons, crosses, embroidery, cloisonné enamel, first-class oriental monuments, rich collection of numismatics, excellent works by Georgian and European artists of different times, etc.
